I got tagged!

i've never been tagged before so i was happy when i got a little message from my friend val saying that i got tagged!

challenge: make a blue layout. sounds simple right?  well. not really if you mostly stay away from colors other than whites and neutrals.

Here is what i came out with after trying different things:

Beginnings...

i guess i love having a routine, except in summer when the travel bug hits me. But now gustavo is back at school and i want to get back to my calendaring & to-do lists. the start of a new school year symbolizes: new beginnings, fresh starts, goals to set and yes, more "me" time for reading, digi-scrapping and girl talk with judith over lunch.

here's a page i made about my son going back to school (10th grade) - i used one of the 2 shots i took while he was walking away... with no chance of him turning around and posing for the camera anymore!

here is the original photo:

talking about new beginnings, last week i took my niece to the university of richmond in virginia and helped her to get all the essentials to make her dorm comfortable - which means we headed to the nearest target and bed bath and beyond with the new college students list as soon as we landed.
i was happy to get to spend time with her and to know that in spite of being a bit scared of heading off to a scary world out there, she is not only excited but most important she has a brain focussed on why she is going there.

here is a photo and a page i made from that day.

last but not least, here are a few of my latest pages.
seems that i can not get away from white backgrounds - and believe me i have tried and on occasion i do use different colors. White just gives me a sense of order, cleanliness, freshness and encourages me to clear clutter form my layouts.
i read somewhere that the color white signifies and enables fresh beginnings - and that was what my post was about today.

Playing with some new goodies!

nothing like having a good amount of new goodies to scrap with.
sue's new photo masks are versatile and adaptable, i can use them over and over in many different ways and if you see my work, you know i just adore to use masks!

nina's 2 new kits are really gorgeous. "me & you" made me start scanning all my wedding pictures which i have been meaning to do for a while but the truth is that i always find other uses for the word art , the papers and the elements. the colors of "fresh air" are just that, fresh! & love the masks with a very modern feel to them.

My work featured on paislee-press

i am thrilled and honored to have my work featured on one of my favorite blogs, paislee-press. Thanks Liz for the awesome comments and for the encouragement that this means to me.

here is a bit of the post:
"I love that she is able to create such high impact with so little. Her photo framing and cropping is genius - i love that it's partly cut off here - as antithetical as it sounds, it somehow completes the page. Nini, thank you for sharing your gorgeous layouts work in the paislee press gallery."

A life in jeans

i guess if i have to define my dressing style, i am going to admit i prefer to wear casual & comfortable clothes. in other words my wardrobe has no much substance unless you count the vast array of jeans in it.

i have always love to wear jeans and after trying so many brands i still could not tell you my favorite one. i guess it would depend of which one i can accommodate to which aspect of my life.
love the flared "vintage" 70's style, the embroidered from true religion, the pricey from mavi, the torn from abercrombie, the extravagant from miss sixty, the skinny, the carpenter and all of the rest.

a favorite pair will have to be medium blue wash, boot legged, good with heels or flats, medium rise and regular back pockets ( do not need the extra stuff back there) but mostly and definitely soft and comfortable - no point in wearing great looking jeans if after an hour you are wanting to take them off!

i am coveting these pair of rock and republic dark blue wash........

Fiction or non-fiction?

several friends of mine and myself have been talking in a forum about the books we are currently reading, giving our opinions and recommending which ones to read hence my topic for today.

we all know reading increases you vocabulary, stimulates the mind and help you retain brain skills among other things. that said, i guess there is the belief that reading non-fiction is a better mind habit than reading fiction because you read about our complex world and not only about the imagination of a particular person.

i do not relegate non-fiction, some books can be very engaging, interesting and challenging but to be honest i am lately finding myself more often in the fiction aisles of Barnes & Noble.

what attracts me to them, you ask? well, i'm sure that even if you have the most interesting and amazing life it can get a bit stale sometimes and here is where those novels come in. there is nothing better than to make time in your day, grab a novel, settle down in peace and quiet and let yourself follow the author into a world of his imagination. i just love reading unconventional plots about virtual places and characters who i do not relate or identify with - i marvel at the creativity and find myself emerging from this active getaway satisfied and refresh!

i know i have fallen under the seductive spell of a great novel when i want to leave everything i am doing and go back to the pages that have me glued to every word. What are you reading?
